DVP & give-up FAQs
Does TradeStation support DVP/RVP settlement for institutional accounts?+
Yes. TradeStation supports delivery-versus-payment (DVP) and receive-versus-payment (RVP) settlement for institutional clients. In DVP/RVP arrangements, securities are delivered only when corresponding payment is made, which is designed to reduce principal settlement risk. DVP/RVP accounts are subject to FINRA Rule 11860 requirements.
What is a give-up arrangement and does TradeStation support it?+
A give-up arrangement allows an institutional client to execute a futures trade through one broker and then ‘give up’ or transfer the trade to another broker for clearing and settlement. TradeStation supports futures give-up arrangements as part of its institutional brokerage services. Give-up availability and terms may vary.
How does DVP settlement reduce risk for institutional trades?+
DVP settlement links the transfer of securities with the transfer of funds so that delivery occurs only against payment. This mechanism is designed to reduce principal risk—the possibility that one party delivers its side of the trade without receiving the other. DVP is a standard institutional settlement method overseen by the SEC and FINRA.
What custodian bank coordination does TradeStation provide for DVP/RVP accounts?+
For DVP/RVP accounts, TradeStation coordinates with the institutional client’s custodian bank or agent to facilitate settlement on a transaction-by-transaction basis. The firm complies with FINRA Rule 11860 requirements including customer identification and trade confirmation protocols. Settlement timelines follow standard market conventions.
